The Manhattan Beach Education Foundation (MBEF) in collaboration with the Downtown Manhattan Beach Business + Professional Association (DBPA) join forces for Support Our Schools Day, an event celebrating the longstanding partnership between our local schools and businesses. Over 50 businesses will contribute between 10% - 20% of their sales to benefit MBEF grants for the 2024-25 school year. Shoppers will experience additional unique sales and specials, and children can participate in a scavenger hunt through downtown businesses for a chance to win gift certificates to the Manhattan Beach Farmers’ Market.
There are 23 participating restaurants offering at least a 10% donation to MBEF for diners. Over 28 popular Manhattan Beach retailers are offering up to 20% donation on all sales for the day. The annual Support Our Schools event began in 2020 when Manhattan Beach Unified School District (MBUSD) faced budget cuts due to decreased school funding from the State of California. The Manhattan Beach City Council declared the third week of March the official Support Our Schools Week. Since that time, Support Our Schools has grown into a strong collaboration between businesses and schools, this year focusing on the Downtown Manhattan Beach central business district. The recent state cuts to school funding are impacting our schools once again, making Support Our Schools an important effort to increase funding for the 2024-25 school year.
